Review your most recent credit card statement

Hello All,

This week is the fourth issue of our Finances for Feminists Financial Bingo Series! Each week we'll highlight one item on the board and I encourage you to play along. By the end of the series you'll have taken concrete action steps towards your financial wellness and feel more empowered and in control of your finances!

For many of us, the majority of our spending transactions are on credit cards. This week we're going to review your most recent credit card statement. If you have multiple cards you can log in to review each or pick your primary spending card to review. Take a deep breath, you've got this!

This exercise is a great place to start because it requires us to examine our current spending behaviors rather than what we think they might be. So often we get caught up in projecting assumptions about our spending rather than examining them.

Consider the following:

  • List out three items that felt like very worthwhile purchases. What values do these items help you to live/embody?

  • Are there any items that you spent money on that you don’t care about? If so, which ones?

  • Were there any charges that surprised you? For instance, a subscription renewal fee?

  • Based on your spending review, is there anything you want to do differently moving forward? If so, what are the relevant action steps?

In your review, you may find an unfamiliar transaction; before you report a fraudulent charge do some quick research. If, after some digging, you still don't recognize a charge, then you should call your credit card company to report the fraudulent transaction.

Let me know how it goes! You can shoot me an email at hello@financesforfeminsts.com or send me a DM at https://www.instagram.com/financesforfeminists/. Congratulate yourself on another bingo square completed!
