Are your money habits aligned with your values?

This week's financial action is all about reflecting on your core values and how your financial habits are aligned or misaligned. If you are partnered, this is a great exercise to do solo and also with your partner.

Ask yourself:

  • How are your current money habits aligned with your core values as an individual and as a family unit?

  • Are there any ways that your current money habits feel misaligned with your core values as an individual and as a family unit?

  • Are there opportunities moving forward for you to spend (or save) more in line with your core values as an individual and as a family unit? If so, what might that look like?

Our values shift over time so it's important to revisit these questions as our circumstances change. For instance, as a new home owner our home environment is something important to my family. When we spend money to beautify or personalize our home it feels aligned with this value. Similarly, health is an important value to me and spending money on my local, woman-owned gym feels positive! It helps me be accountable to my health goals while also supporting a small women-owned business, win-win!

Money habits may not always pan out in terms of spending. If you value security and stability you may prioritize increasing your savings goals instead.

I'm so curious, what ways are your money habits (spending and saving) aligned with your values? Let me know how it goes!
